A Few Fall Decorating Ideas For Outside With Stuff You Already Have….

To add a bit of flair to your exterior without breaking the bank can be easy if you use what you have. Below are a few examples…use your metal lanterns or pots with chicken wire tops by filling up with mini pumpkins & gourds (your local grocery store will have in produce department, a bag of 8 was 3.99). If you have glass cloches, fill those with mini gourds or acorns (which are about as free as you can get but you might have to fight off a squirrel).
I painted a couple of pumpkins black, took a couple wire ravens I had from inside, a box turned upside down to add dimension, a small wood stool and a colorful ball to add whimsy to the front door area. I also added a painted white pumpkin that didn’t look that great all white, so I add brown stain to it…voila now it looks antiqued. If something doesn’t turn out or look right, don’t be afraid to revamp…cuz you can!

When Summer Collides With Fall, Outside Decor Ideas

SONY DSC
Fall is my favorite season for sure…I love the colors, the smells, the crisp air but it is a tricky transition for decorating your yard. Below are a few ideas I use to meld the two seasons in our yard. The first trick is to use color, I use real pumpkins as they are inexpensive. Add color to the entrance of your home. The first thing you see when you pull up to your house…that is where to display Shazam!! A few examples would be…the urn you had a pot full of flowers in, place fake hydrangea (these are quite nice from Michel’s) on the edges of urn & secure by placing a large pumpkin on top. Or place an oversized fall wreath on your garage.
I still have all the succulents outside & a few annuals left…those who follow me may remember the pallet succulent garden which I had to photograph to show you how fabulous this looks towards the end of the season. This project is a no brainer for next year, it has two qualities that I love…”Grand Showcase Appeal” and “Inexpensive”.
With the nice weather in Calgary, we still have roses blooming & strawberries growing. Sweet!
